As many of you know, I am trying to follow the Whole30 diet for 18 days. I decided to give it a try after Christmas, I was feeling a little sluggish and I wanted to clean up my diet before going to Vegas for my 23rd birthday! I am going to write another post on my overall experience and favorite recipes but for now, here are my favorite snacks!
Whole30 is a “diet” that last for 30 full days and it’s supposed to reinvent your relationship with food. Basically for 30 days you only eat whole foods, organic and non processed meat and nuts. With that being said, you cannot have sugar, dairy wheat or other grains….and no alcohol!
I am not a huge snacker because I love to eat giant meals (my issue) but at night when I am watching tv or sometimes when I’m in the car having coffee, I want something to munch on! Here are my favorites.
- Cucumber slices. I love these because they’re fresh, crunchy and easy to prep. At the beginning of the week, i’ll cut up 3 cucumbers and put them in sandwich bags. This just makes it easier to grab them when I want to be out the door quickly in the morning or late at night when I want something “bad” but these are readily available.
- Grapes. Grapes are one of my favorite fruits but I am careful not to eat too many because they’re high in sugar. I pack these in my lunch bag because after eating my chicken and veggies, I want something a little sweet!
- Larabars. I have been eating these for years, THEY’RE SO GOOD! Only certain flavors are Whole30 approved, so make sure you check before stocking up on them. Larabars are sold Kroger, Trader Joes and Wholefoods. I have also seen huge boxes at Costco but they always include peanuts which you CANNOT HAVE. I wouldn’t eat a lot of these, but maybe when you want something sweet!
- Eggs! I love eggs, I eat them daily. In the morning I usually was 2-3 hard boiled eggs with a little seasoning but sometimes I’m not hungry for breakfast so ill pack them for a snack. I like the with the Everything but the Bagel Seasoning from Tader Joes. It’s $1.99 and taste amazing on everything.
Hopefully you found this a little helpful if you’re thinking about trying Whole30! I would say about 70% of the time, I don’t want snacks because my meals are hearty and full of veggies. Buying fruits and veggies can be expensive but its actually cheaper (and a lot healthier) than buying chips, crackers, dips, and other junk food snacks!
